"I held insurance with State Farm through Joe Mullee for 6 years and never met Joe or talked with him. I had premium raises with no warning as a policy renewal would be sent and I would see a higher rate. I filed a homeowner's claim and tried to cancel it immediately. Not only was Joe useless in lending help, neither was his designated representative Sara. At no time did anyone at the agency advise me on filing claims and I wasn't even contacted regarding it. If I wanted to deal directly with an insurance company I would expect no personal interaction, the value of an agent is knowing someone in your community who wants to make sure you're ok. I had a house fire while living in Texas and went to file a claim and my agent came out to see me and ensure I was ok in person in an area much larger than Loudoun county so if Joe is too busy with his massive insurance empire he should instill some value in his agents. Overall I gained no appreciable benefit from having an agent. Every interaction I ever had with State Farm was directly to State Farm. My advice is to find an agent with some personality and interest in reaching out to clients when they actually need the insurance and not just to get the payments taken care of."
